Chinese startup Sharge has launched its first AI glasses, the AI Glass A1, as competition intensifies in the AI-powered wearables market. The device marks Sharge’s entry into a field already attracting major players like Xiaomi, Huawei, and Baidu, with release of similar products expected early next year.

Founded in 2020 by Zhang Bo, a former executive at Gree and Meizu, Sharge initially focused on power banks and storage devices, achieving notable success in overseas markets. The company is now betting on AI glasses as a natural evolution of smart hardware, given their close integration with human senses and growing interest in wearable technology.

The AI Glass A1 integrates services from over ten domestic AI model providers and features a lightweight design for daily wear. To address battery life concerns, Sharge offers an optional external battery accessory. Zhang highlighted the glasses’ ability to enhance memory and record multimodal data as a key differentiator, positioning them as more than just a smartphone extension.

Sharge plans to ship 500,000 units annually to break even, an ambitious target compared to domestic competitors like Xiaomi and Huawei, whose smart glasses have more conservative production numbers. Unlike its peers, Sharge is targeting global markets, leveraging its efficient overseas distribution network and aiming to reach regions underserved by larger competitors.

The AI glasses market has grown rapidly, fueled by advancements in AI and rising demand for connected devices. While challenges such as lightweight manufacturing and scaling production remain, Zhang sees this as a pivotal moment for the industry and is confident in Sharge's ability to stand out through innovation and a global-first approach.
