Song Gang, Tesla’s VP of Manufacturing and head of its Shanghai gigafactory, has resigned, concluding his tenure on December 18. Song played a pivotal role in establishing Tesla’s first overseas plant, leading the rapid local production of the Model 3 and Model Y with over 95% component localization. The Shanghai factory, with an annual capacity of 950,000 units, supplies markets across Asia-Pacific and Europe.
Tesla has not yet appointed a successor, with Fei Wenjin and Sun Haolin emerging as potential candidates. Sources revealed that Song plans to join Envision Group, a greentech company renowned for its wind turbines and energy storage solutions.
