Shenzhen to connect Metro system with Dongguan

Shenzhen has started the construction of its fifth phase of Metro system, including 11 Metro lines, two of which will be extended to the neighboring city of Dongguan, the city’s government said Tuesday.

Line 15, a loop line that covers several major technology parks in Nanshan and Bao’an districts will break ground before July.

With a total investment of 195.2 billion yuan (US$27.03 billion), the 11 new Metro lines cover a total length of 185.6 kilometers. When finished in 2028, the total length of Shenzhen’s Metro system will reach 831 kilometers, ranking fifth in China.

Among the 11 lines, two will be extended to Dongguan, a manufacturing hub of digital products neighboring Shenzhen, passengers will be able to commute between the two cities via Metro within an hour.
