Recent reports indicate that Ford China has begun to lay off staff, with over 1,300 people being compensated under the N+3 scheme.
Ford China said on Wednesday that they are creating a more streamlined and flexible organizational structure to invest resources in core businesses and achieve their goals in China.
The statement may be related to Ford’s declining market share in China. In 2022, Ford sales in China fell by 33.5 percent year on year, with a market share of only 2.1 percent.
In the context of declining sales, Ford has prioritized commercial vehicles, electric vehicles, and exports as its new strategy in China. Other automakers such as Stellantis, GM and Volvo have also announced layoffs in the name of transitioning to new energy vehicles.
