BYD to enter Thailand with first factory deal

Chinese electric car giant BYD has announced its first overseas factory, in Thailand. The factory is expected to open in 2024 and make around 150,000 cars annually, mostly for Southeast Asia and Europe.

The news comes as BYD is going aggressively global, replacing its website www.byd.com with www.bydglobal.com. BYD's market already extends to 70 countries and regions including Denmark, Japan and Thailand.

In July, BYD sold just over 4,000 cars overseas rising to over 5,000 cars in August, mostly in Australia. The Yuan and Tang are the main models sold overseas, while the Qin PLUS DM-I and Song PLUS DM-I went on sale in Colombia in March.
