Bilibili trims several departments

Last Friday, short video platform Bilibili was said to have started a new round of layoffs. The company claimed that the rumors were not true. There are some staff adjustments, but no large-scale layoffs.

Bilibili has made changes to games, live streaming, occupationally generated video (OGV) and overseas business. Employees confirm that the company is in talks about layoffs and compensation.

A member of the technology department was offered one month’s notice and compensation. He estimated that more than 10 of his department had left voluntarily or been laid off. An employee in content production told Jiemian News that many staff had been made to change jobs since January. Many still expect to be fired after the transfer.

In the past two years, content has played a major role in the growth of Bilibili’s value-added services. The cost of content production is high, however, and losses continue to expand, reaching 6.8 billion yuan last year.
