Tibet Airlines passenger aircraft catches fire, 122 people evacuated in Chongqing

An aircraft caught fire on Thursday morning after veering off the runway at southwest China’s Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, according to Xinhua News.

The Tibet Airlines flight TV9833, carrying 113 passengers and nine crew, was headed from Chongqing to Nyingchi in the Tibet Autonomous Region when abnormalities were detected and take-off was suspended. All passengers and crew were evacuated safely. 40 passengers suffered minor injuries and have been sent to hospitals for treatment, Tibet Airlines said in a statement.

According to the flight information app Flight Master, now, 35 flights have been delayed at Chongqing Jiangbei Airport, and 14 flights have been diverted or returned.
