Staycationers intent on sleeping under the stars

Since April, Covid has spread to all provinces in China except Tibet, with a total of 553,251 local cases reported nationwide. Amid the tightening of Covid prevention measures across the country, local tourism is booming, particularly hotels in big cities, as prices remain low. 

Camping, a relatively safe and close-to-nature way of travel, has become popular. During the May Day holiday camping-related searches increased by 117 percent month-over-month and bookings are three times that of last year.

Hotels are offering camping. The number of orders for hotels and B&Bs with the “camping” label on Trip.com increased by 153 percent compared with last month and prices have risen sharply.
