Bytedance appoints lawyer Julie Gao as new CFO

Corporate attorney Julie Gao is the new chief financial officer of ByteDance, owner of TikTok, according to an internal memo sent to staff on Monday. The post has been vacant since Shou Zi Chew stepped aside in November to be the CEO of TikTok.

Prior to her new post, Gao was a senior partner at the law firm Skadden China, advising on IPOs and other capital markets transactions. Gao was instrumental in ByteDance’s acquisitions of Musical.ly and gaming studio Moonton.

Gao will be based in Hong Kong and Singapore.
