ByteDance, the owner of short video app TikTok, said on January 19 that it will disband its strategic investment team. The decision comes after analysis to reduce investments with “low synergies.” Staff will be offered posts in other divisions. 

Public data showed ByteDance made more than 50 investments last year in short videos, education, e-commerce, finance and games.
