Shanghai International Film Festival opens with record submissions

The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival opens on Friday and runs through June 21, with screenings continuing until June 28.

Organizers said the festival received nearly 4,100 film submissions from 125 countries and regions, setting a new record for global entries.

World or international premieres account for 82% of participating films, underscoring the growing appeal of Shanghai as a launch platform for filmmakers from China and abroad.

More than 420 international films will be screened across themed sections, with over 1,600 screenings scheduled during the event.

The festival is jointly hosted by the China Film Administration, China Media Group and the Shanghai municipal government.
