Airbnb unveiled a sweeping expansion beyond accommodation at its 2026 Summer Release event on Tuesday, adding categories including grocery delivery, car rentals, boutique and independent hotels, as well as AI-powered tools globally.

The move marks Airbnb's latest push to evolve from a lodging-focused platform into a broader one-stop travel booking ecosystem.

Asked whether Airbnb could eventually return to China's domestic market, Airbnb co-founder and chief strategy officer Nathan Blecharczyk told Jiemian News that the company remains focused on China's rapidly growing outbound travel market, but did not rule out future possibilities or potential formats for re-entry.

Blecharczyk said China holds enormous potential as a travel destination amid favorable visa policies, but added that Airbnb would need to carefully evaluate the "right way" to participate given intense local competition.

Asked whether the company had a concrete timetable for returning, he said there is currently no specific schedule.
