Apple will permanently close its store in Dalian's Parkland Mall on August 9, according to a notice on the company's China website. The store opened in October 2015 as the first Apple Store in Dalian and the second in Liaoning province. After the closure, Apple will have one remaining store in the city.
While Apple has not disclosed the reason for the closure, store staff told Jiemian News they had not received information about a potential new location nearby. Although Apple previously closed its Sanlitun store in Beijing in 2020, it reopened a new location in the same district two days later—suggesting that closure was part of a relocation. No such plan has been confirmed this time.
Apple will open a new store in Shenzhen's Qianhai MixC mall on August 16, bringing its total number of retail stores in mainland China to 49, including the soon-to-close Dalian location.
The move comes as Apple's sales in China face mounting pressure. The company shipped 9.6 million iPhones in the second quarter of 2025, ranking fifth with a 13.9% market share, according to IDC. Huawei led the market with 12.5 million units and an 18.1% share.
In its latest earnings, Apple reported Greater China revenue of US$18.51 billion in the first fiscal quarter, down 11% year-on-year, and US$16 billion in the second, down 2%. It marked the seventh consecutive quarter of decline in the region.
