Xiaomi founcer and CEO Lei Jun marked the first workday of the Lunar New Year by handing out red envelopes to employees. While extending New Year greetings, he also announced the upcoming launches of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, both set for the end of the month, with a 10,000-unit sales target for the SU7 Ultra.

Xiaomi’s first car, the SU7, debuted in March 2023 and saw overwhelming demand after deliveries began in April, with waiting periods stretching for weeks. At the end of last year, Xiaomi’s second model, the YU7, appeared in the MIIT’s new car catalog, with a mid-2025 launch expected. The company delivered more than 135,000 vehicles in 2024 and has set its 2025 goal at 300,000 units.

On October 29, 2024, Xiaomi unveiled the production version of its high-performance SU7 Ultra, featuring a 1,548-horsepower engine, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 1.98 seconds, and a top speed of 350 km/h. The model has a pre-sale price of 814,900 yuan (over 112,000 USD). A day before its launch, an SU7 Ultra prototype set a new Nürburgring lap record for four-door cars, clocking 6 minutes 46.874 seconds.

Pre-orders opened to a strong response, with 3,680 units reserved within the first 10 minutes. Lei has positioned the SU7 Ultra as a direct challenger to Tesla’s Model S Plaid, claiming its standard configuration offers more. “We want the SU7 Ultra to be at its peak the moment it debuts—no upgrades needed.”
