GAC invests 1 bln yuan in Didi's autonomous driving unit

Automaker GAC Group and state-owned Guangzhou Investment Group are to invest 1.1 billion yuan (US$150 million) in Voyager, the autonomous driving unit of ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing.

GAC and Voyager launched an autonomous-driving venture in May, with the first model promised for 2025. GAC’s Aion platform and Didi's L4 autonomous driving technology will combine in specialized vehicles for Didi's transportation network.

In 2019, GAC and Tencent launched a robo-taxi firm Ruqi Mobility now valued at 5.4 billion yuan. GAC has invested heavily in intelligent driving this year. In August, GAC Capital, and Guangzhou Yingpeng invested 40 million yuan in high-precision maps.
