Baidu's Apollo Go and Pony.ai granted green light for driverless Robotaxi in Beijing

Apollo Go and Pony.ai, two autonomous vehicle technologies companies owned by search engine giant Baidu, are allowed to operate driverless ride-hailing services in Yizhuang in Beijing without a safety supervisor behind the wheel, the companies said on Tuesday.

PENG Jun, Co-founder and CEO of Pony.ai said the company’s next goal is to continue to advance the mass production process and cost reduction of unmanned driving, and verify the economic and social benefits of autonomous driving on the premise of large-scale services.

Two months ago, Beijing allowed commercial operations of driverless vehicles with a safety supervisor behind the wheel or in the front passenger seat.
