Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway makes profit in H1

The Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway Group moved from losses last year into profits in the first half of this year, with revenue reaching 19.3 billion yuan (about US$2.6 billion), a 143-percent year-on-year increase. Net profit amounted to 5.14 billion yuan, compared to a 1.03 billion yuan loss last year at the height of the pandemic.

In H1, the line transported 25 million passengers, four times more than last year. It's one of the few profitable high-speed rail lines in China.

However, its affiliate connecting smaller cities in Anhui Province reported a loss of 569 million yuan. Despite this, the Beijing-Shanghai line made a profit of 5.14 billion yuan.
